sustainability concept
First of all – we are just at the beginning of our efforts!
And as a guest, you can also contribute to reducing our environmental impact.
In the coming years, we will continuously work to fulfill our ecological responsibilities. We would like to introduce a series of measures that we have already implemented over the past years and give an outlook on future projects.
Our largest measure so far is the conversion from a conventional oil heating system to a modern gas heating system and the commissioning of a combined heat and power plant in the summer of 2015. Since then, we have been producing part of our daily electricity needs ourselves and using the generated heat, for example, to heat our sauna and spa areas.
A drinking water system was also installed at that time. Through four plate heat exchangers, the drinking water is heated only when you turn on the faucet. This has the advantage that we do not store hot water, thus preventing contamination from stagnant water.
A water softening system reduces the scaling of our sanitary facilities and significantly reduces the use of cleaning agents.
In cooperation with the Groß-Gerau waterworks, we launched the water brand “Gerer Landwasser.” Since August 2021, we have been bottling a large part of our sparkling and still water on-site. This saves time, delivery routes, storage, and energy costs. And the best part: we offer high-quality water at a reasonable price.
Our new hotel brochure was printed CO2-neutral. See certificate on the right.
By now, more than 80% of the lighting used in the hotel and restaurant has been switched to LED or energy-saving lighting. Our outdoor lighting was also renewed in 2017 and is now fully LED-operated.
Even small things can help. For example, in the kitchen, we use a vacuum machine that can vacuum-seal special containers, reducing the consumption of plastic bags by several hundred pieces per year.
We source part of our food directly from local butchers and vegetable growers in Büttelborn. This reduces delivery routes and tastes better.
For the supply of eco-gas from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021, E.ON Energie Deutschland GmbH has purchased emission reduction certificates amounting to 348 tons of CO2 equivalents for Scheuermann and Gries GbR.
We continue to pursue the ambitious goal of reducing our environmental impact. I am always open to suggestions from our guests and am available for any inquiries.
For the sake of the environment,
Holger Gries
